1 Visit a CAM practitioner as a patient. Be sure that you have received approval from your professor prior to your visit.
2 Write a report on your experience.
3 Your report must be in the correct APA Format throughout, scholarly and college level writing. Must be a minimal of 6-8 pages, including Title page and Reference page. In-text citations must match the references listed on the Reference page. Minimum 6 – 8 current references (within 5 years)
4 The Body of the paper needs to answer the following questions: (using titles and sub-titles as per APA Format).
· Where did you go and why did you choose to go there?
It’s a chiropractic office out of West Miami and the office of Dr. so and so (I’ll plug his name in before submitting it, you can refer to him in the paper as DR. Blank). The services on his website (I’ll give it to you in a PM because I think it should placed in the paper somewhere after introducing him or if you like, you can give me a space or marker saying “place website here”) range from chiropractic alignments and adjustments to massage therapy.
Depending on the price I will be going in for a spinal adjustment or massage therapy due to chronic lower back and upper neck pain (this is what I told my instructor prior to her approval of the site, etc.) she approved.
I choose to do the hour long session on massage which the masseuse used 2 types of massage therapies in our session, Deep Tissue Massage and Tui Na (A Chinese massage therapy) She kept telling to breath in certain positions and to control my respirations for my muscles to decompress and relax. Make sure to throw that in there, whether its for the DTM or Tui Na.
· What was your initial impression of the center or office? Is it licensed by the state?
My first impression of the establishment was welcoming and humble. It is a small local office ran by one Chiropractor. So as I walked in I was actually greeted by him himself, seconds after from turning in my current health form (personal info, any PMHX, and a figure of person and you were supposed to circle the areas of concern.) I did the form prior to arrival.
All medical professionals are licensed under the State of Florida for them to practice like in most states. The Chiropractor himself has an active license to practice in Florida and the masseuse is a Licensed Massage Therapist in the State of Florida.
· What are the credentials of the practitioner you were treated by?
Massage Therapist: E. Fernandez (I’ll fill this part later)
License Number: blah blah (I’ll fill this in later as well)
Stated she had 20 years experience, I didn’t want to ask her age but she looked around 55 (I don’t know if this is important.)
· What ailments did you ‘share’ with the practitioner?
I mentioned I have mild chronic lower back pain and newly developed everyday neck pain for the past month or so.
· What recommendations did the practitioner give you?
That I stretched everyday to the point where no pain is felt and to do so gradually. She mentioned to work out my hands and wrists so I’m not so dependent on my upper arms, which lead to my neck. Also stated that we hold a lot of stress up in the neck area so it is important to remain stress free. As well taking a bath with Epsom salt, she really didn’t give me a reason to why or how many times a week though.
· Will your follow his or her recommendations?
Yes, I will be stretching more often as soon as I wake up and before bed, trying to maintain stress free. I will be looking into some hand strengthening techniques. I don’t know how I’ll be trying the Epsom salt bath with no bathtub in the house, so that’s one of the question.
· Did you experience any results? How did you feel once your treatment was finished?
I felt results right after. I felt like I was floating. All my upper neck and lower back muscles were relaxed and the rest of the day went great. The neck morning, my right upper back was killing me in pain. I could barely look to the right without turning my whole body. I‘ve taken some Tylenol, Ibuprofen and some warm compresses in the area and it has subsided. I don’t think I’ll be getting another Deep tissue massage in a while. It might have been the force pressed onto certain points in that area that made it hurt the next day but no where else.
Include a minimum of 6-8 in-text citations and references, in the correct APA Format.
